The History of Chakkraphat Mantra พระคาถามหาจักรพรรดิ

The Chakkraphat Mantra (Thai: พระคาถามหาจักรพรรดิ) was authored by P Doo (Thai:หลวงปู่ดู่) of Wat Sakae, Ayutthaya (Thai: วัดสะแก อ.อุทัย จ.อยุธยา); and verses were inspired from the Chompupati Sutra. The Chompupati Sutra tells a tale where the Buddha transformed himself into a majestic emperor to suppress the arrogance of the powerful King Praya Chompubodhi.

Like many guru monks, LP Doo had created and distributed many efficacious objects during his time. However, his disciples yearned for a deeper connection with their amulets and requested for a mantra they could recite during meditation. LP Doo gladly penned a mantra to fulfil their wishes – this was the birth of the Chakkraphat Mantra. A mantra so greatly popularize, it became one of Thailand’s highly revered mantra alongside with Phra Buddhacharn Toh Phomarangsi’s Chinabunchorn Mantra.

After the creation of the Chakkraphat Mantra, LP Doo used this mantra religiously to consecrate his sacred objects during phutthapisek/poksek* ceremonies – LP Doo would recite the mantra to compound the compassionate energy gained, and subsequently transfer it to all deserving spirits in the three worlds (Heaven, Earth and Hell).

(*Phutthapisek/Poksek ceremony – usually a grand blessing ceremony where select guru monks are invited by the organizing temple to come together and consecrate a batch of amulets or statues/bucha)

An exceptionally popular type of amulet created by LP Doo for his disciples (as a meditative tool) is the ‘Phra Phong Chakkraphat’ (Thai: พระผงจักรพรรดิ) (trans. amulet made from the holy Chakkraphat powder).

You do not have to be a monk to experience the greatness of the Chakkraphat Mantra

According to LP Doo, a person who chants or meditates with the Chakkraphat Mantra regularly may pray for anything he/she wants. The Chakkraphat Mantra is also like a ‘wishing spell’. Even if you encounter the toughest problem in life, the compassionate energy gained by chanting this mantra will miraculously better the difficult situation. With verses paying homage to Phra Sivali, the Chakkraphat Mantra also brings you wealth and abundance in life.

I once sought help from guru monk, LP Boonrai at Wat Ananda Metyarama in Singapore, for his recommendations on mantras I could learn to improve and heighten my spiritual cultivation. I told LP Boonrai that I picked up the Chakkraphat Mantra but was not reciting it on a regular basis (then). LP Boonrai simply said, ‘”no need to learn anything else, continue with the Chakkraphat Manta, it is very good”. I have since embraced the Chakkraphat Mantra wholeheartedly and like the millions of Thais who have experienced and benefited from the miraculous powers of the Chakkraphat Mantra, so did I.

Energies of the Chakkraphat Mantra

The Chakkrapat Mantra salutes all five Buddhas in our kalpa, the Triple Gems, all Buddhas from the previous kalpa, every Phra Bhatjakphutthachao (a Buddha who attained enlightenment by himself and have no disciple to carry on the lineage), every Bodhisattva, Dharma, all Buddhist saints, all gods (Devas), all Brahmas and all holy objects related to Buddhism. Chanting this mantra allows us to invoke/ask for the great compassionate energies/blessings from Lord Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Saints, Dharma, Devas, Brahmas and all things sacred to flow through us. We, as receptors, can use this flow of divine energy to make merit in any way. For example, you may create a spiritual protective shield, suppress black magic, dissolve difficult problems, improve financial difficulties, or transmit the compassionate energies to ‘debtors’ from your past lives, demons, devils, ghosts or any spirit who needs help in order to cross over to their appropriate dimension.

The Chakkraphat Mantra is a sacred chant that allows devotees to reap goodness, blessings and all-round protection from a supreme source. While the Chakkraphat Mantra is an extremely powerful chant, it is also dependent on one’s faith and diligence. If one keeps reciting and puts the mantra to good use, he/she will be able to enhance his/her spiritualistic ability astonishingly (ref. Trarattana 2, p.41).

“Chant the Chakkraphat Mantra daily, followed by the transference of merit prayer. Send and share your compassionate, virtuous energies gained to spirits, Devas, Brahmas to help them flourish peacefully. Because, when you hit a roadblock in life and cornered, those spirits will come to help you. When they do, you’ll marvel in the miraculous power of the Chakkraphat Mantra” – LT Ma of Wat Tham Muang Na (LP Doo’s most prominent living disciple)
